Physiotherapy for older adults
Home visits across the Isle of Wight
Getting up from a chair or walking outside may have become harder. We can assess your movement in your own home. You’ll agree an exercise plan based on your ability and what you’d like to do more easily.
Free suitability chat. No obligation.
Any home visit is agreed with you afterwards.

Working on movement in your own home.
Work on the things
you want to do
Treatment starts from what you can do now and the activities you value. Some people want to regain movement. Others want to keep what they have, or find an easier way to manage a daily task.
Getting up and moving around
Practice might focus on rising from a chair, moving between rooms or using the stairs. Because it happens at home, the height of your own seat and the space around you become part of the assessment.
Feeling steadier on your feet
We can assess your balance and talk through exercises that suit your ability. If you use a walking aid, we can also look at how you manage with it at home.
Building up everyday activity
After a less active spell, it can be hard to know where to begin. You agree a starting point for exercise. Then you review it as your ability changes.
Keeping up what matters to you
A goal can be small and still make a difference to your day. Making your own breakfast or getting to the garden may matter more to you than an exercise score. Your goals help guide the plan.

“The home visit was super helpful because one of my issues was due to the fact I had the saddle too high on my exercise bike. Had I visited a clinic, this would not have been picked up as easily.”
When home physiotherapy
may be useful
You might have noticed a gradual change. Or you might feel less able to manage after an illness or a spell of inactivity. You don’t need to know what kind of help you need before you ask.
- Getting out of your usual chair has become harder.
- You feel unsteady when turning or moving around the house.
- You walk shorter distances, or have stopped going out as often.
- Daily tasks take more effort and you’re worried about losing independence.
We’ll assess what’s affecting your movement and talk through next steps. Some difficulties need a medical assessment or a different kind of support. If that applies to you, we’ll discuss it with you when you’re considering a visit.
What happens
at a home visit
Time to understand what’s changed
We ask about your health, how you manage day to day and what you’d like to work towards. If you have concerns about movement or exercise, tell us.
Assessment in your own surroundings
We look at how you move and at the parts of your home that matter for your goals. That could mean getting up from a chair or using the stairs, along with any equipment you already use. Where it’s needed, we can talk through practical changes or further support.
An exercise plan you can use at home
Your initial assessment includes a personalised exercise and rehabilitation plan. We explain the exercises and check how you get on with them. The plan is based on your ability and what’s appropriate for you.
Follow-up visits to review the plan
Together you look at what’s changed and what still feels difficult. Exercises can be adjusted as your needs change, and any further visits are discussed with you. How many appointments you have, and how often, depends on your assessment and goals.

for a relative
You can make the first enquiry for a parent, partner or someone you care for, even if you live off the Island. Tell us what has changed and what the person would like help with.
The person having treatment stays involved in decisions about their care. With their agreement, family or carers can join the conversation and talk about how to support the plan between visits. Updates are shared with consent.

Questions about physiotherapy for older adults
Still have a question?
Ask us by email.
Do I need to know which service I need?
No. Tell us what’s getting difficult and what you’d like to do more easily. The first conversation is there to work out whether a home assessment is suitable.
What if I haven’t exercised for a long time?
Mention it when you enquire. Your health and current ability should guide the assessment and any exercise plan. There’s no need to prepare by trying exercises on your own.
Can physiotherapy help if I feel frail?
Feeling weaker, or finding everyday tasks more tiring, is a reason to talk it through. We can assess your movement and consider suitable rehabilitation. If you need further assessment, we may suggest speaking to your GP or another professional.
How many visits will I need?
It depends on what you want to work towards and how you respond to treatment. We’ll discuss follow-ups with you and review the plan as you go. No single recovery timetable fits everyone.
Can someone stay with me during the visit?
You can ask for a relative or carer to be there. Let us know when you arrange the appointment, and say how you’d like them involved.
Is this an NHS service?
No. Vectis Home Physio is a private service. Jacob also works in the NHS, but his private home visits are separate from that work.
